After my dad stepped down as an elder, the CO constantly harassed him to be reappointed. Until one day he had enough, and I am told got into a yelling match with the CO at the back of the hall. My parents are still JWs but he will never be an elder again.

Another Burnt Out Elder

nicest guy, with two lovely kids, a great supportive wife.. it got to be too much, as the other elders are practically useless, let him do all the hard work, while they did all the "important" stuff.
literally ran him ragged.. he's still in good standing, gave the final prayer.

Finding Peace in Older Age
by compound complex ina cool sense of tranquility overtakes my troubled spirit.. i emerge slowly from a deeply entrenched, lifelong nightmare and proceed into gentle reverie, into quiet wakefulness.
youthful ideals, embodied in vaporous form before me, are a black reminiscence, threatening to return as an untold want having neither name nor substance, only a niggling dig that skewers my soul.. i shut it out, shut out all the noise in the head: irrational thought, excessive thinking that leads to depression, to insanity.
yet, i am hopeful that devils of the past are blocked approach to me by a portcullis that guards both heart and mind.. i see but darkly my amorphous reflection and sense it is a phantom, not the real me.

Although your writings are more pleasing than mine, I agree wholeheartedly. I also think - who am I to ever have thought I could tell someone else the best way to live their life. What a waste - believing in a lie that I had all the answers. I am more comfortable now knowing I don't have to have all the answers, I don't have to be certain of anything, and I don't need to convince anyone of anything.❤️

I think it's ridiculous. I am so glad I never married a JW. It takes away the natural relationship you would have with your spouse. Those of you still married to JWs, you have my sympathy. I would never allow my husband to be treated the way most of you are treated as disfellowshipped or inactive ones. Where is the natural affection? Where is the " you will not treat my spouse like crap"? It's all lost to a stupid made up religion.

While I agree that the Watchtower organization coerces people to shun it's still the individual people that choose to do it. My family chooses religion over family. Some people choose drugs or alcohol over family, mine aren't addicts they are crazy religious people. Until they take responsibility for their own actions the shunning will continue.
Part of the allure of religions like the JWs is people don't have to think for themselves or take responsibility for their actions. All the decisions are made for them.

I had a hard time with Bernies free everything for everybody. The money had to come from somewhere - as nothing is free. That means more taxes for those of us that work. I paid $30k in just federal income taxes last year, and that's after all my deductions. That is not including SS, Medicare, or state taxes, just plain federal income tax. So the thought of paying in more to support an even bigger welfare/social program didn't appeal.
